About a month ago I was starting to gather my outfits to go to Viva Las Vegas. When I went to try on the pieces I thought I was packing, oops! nothing was fitting. My belly had become too big! I guess I should have expected that as I had finally hit my third trimester. So, I went to Etsy hoping I'd be able to find some empire waist vintage dresses, but that didn't come through as I had hoped. Feeling discouraged, I ended up heading to the mall, a place I rarely shop, and stopped in at Forever 21.
While walking around the store, I kept turning to my son and shopping partner, Vinnie, with big eyes saying, "Oh my gosh! Why is there so much cute stuff?!?" I must have gathered over 20 items to test out in the fitting room. Would I actually be able to transform these into vintage inspired maternity wear?
I took my pile to the fitting room, and saved my favorite pieces for last. Many items did not fit or look right with my big bump, but surprisingly, more than expected looked great! However, it was this white and brown, two piece, polka dot ensemble that I thought looked very Carmen Miranda, even on the hanger, that I was most excited about. I tried it on and taaaa-daaaa! I was so happy! I knew right away this was coming with me to Vegas.
Can you see how cute it is? The flutter sleeves on the wrap top, high waisted skirt with a ruffled hem! Ah...too too cute! So, I obviously purchased the set, and began brainstorming at home with this outfit first. I knew I could do a variety of color combos that would pop against the print, but I also had recently purchased this huge white sun hat from another place I rarely go in to. Seriously.... I bought this hat at the .99 Cent Store! Isn't that crazy?!?!
With the hat I knew I'd need to decide if I'd wear this to either the Viva Las Vegas car show or the pool party, and being outside I'd want to do an updo, which I would also want to decorate with some pink flowers. So pink it was! Hey thats easy for me to do! So it all flowed together from there.... I grabbed a pink wicker purse, pink & wood bangles, some 1940s inspired oversized sunglasses, and gold hoop earrings.
In the end I felt this final look was more appropriate for the car show, and I was looking forward to wearing it that Saturday afternoon. Only problem was, it was so hot! Were any of you there? I would have blamed it on the pregnancy, but within 30 minutes of walking the aisles of cars, even Max was flushed & acting very cranky, so I took the kids inside for ice cream and left the hubby where he wanted to be... with the cars.
Once we cooled down and Josh was done walking the show, we were able to snap some pics of my favorite Viva outfit with the best shaded background. This pink wall!
