My 10 Skin Care Essentials!

My 10 Skin Care Essentials!

I hope I do not sound like a broken record when I say this, but I have sensitive skin!    I have had more than most in break outs from skin care products, pretty sure I set the record for shortest time in the sun to get a sunburn, and then there were the very comfortable hours, days, AND weeks following that Brazilian waxing!  I don't think I need to explain....  With that being said; I am no esthetician or cosmetologist, but I get the feeling that not all the pros "get" my skin.  I have learned what works best through my own trial and error over the years, and would love to pass along these products to you.  I know I am not alone.

During my days at Nordstrom, I would sneak away during slow points of my shift, trying out testers and stocking up on samples from the most expensive brands.  I quickly learned that expensive did not been better quality.  Although; between skincare, haircare, and makeup, there are definitely some staple pieces that I only buy from specialty stores, but still, there are plenty that I can get for under $10.   Below you can see 10 skincare items that I always have in my bathroom.

1. CLINIQUE- Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel

I began using Clinique when I was about 20 years old.  I realized that my mother, who has also been wearing Clinique since she was around the same age, has some pretty good looking skin.  This dermatologist-developed formula doesn't feel greasy, but still feels like it is hydrating my skin.   (On sale for $22.95 down from $27)

2. NEUTROGENA - Pink Grapefruit Cleansing Wipes

I try not to use face wipes too often.  They could cause drying, and the wiping can't be doing any good.  But after a long day out, or maybe too much makeup for an event or photoshoot, I like having these handy to wipe off my makeup on the way home.  That pink grapefruit smell is delicious too!  (only $7.99)

3. GLAM GLOW - Super Mud Clearing Treatment Jumbo Size with Treatment Brush

GlamGlow has been the talk of the town in recent skin care years, and I have been lucky enough to try a couple of their products.  Now I want it all!  This 10-minute anti-aging treatment mask set provides enough for 50 facials! and I love that it come with a treatment brush.  This set might sound hefty at $99, but today is on sale for only $79, then divide that by 50 facials.  That's less than $2 each!  This super-mud clearing treatment includes volcanic rock, French sea clay, & patented Teaoxi technology.  Phthalate-free; sulfate-free; & paraben-free. (Currently 20% off at $79, down from $99)

4. NEUTROGENA - Sensitive Skin Sunscreen SPF 70

It is a must for me to wear sunscreen.  Not only do I turn pink from mild sun exposure, but myself, and the rest of us, should be aware of the cancer risk with all skin types.  For years I thought that I could not wear facial sunscreen because all the brands I was trying, including BB creams, would make me break out with these huge, nasty, red lumps like spider bites.  I finally tried Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunscreen which has been nothing short of perfect.  I do not wear my normal face lotion with this, and have noticed I need to let the sunscreen completely dry before applying makeup, or it will look streaky.  ($11.99)

5. PETER THOMAS ROTH - Vitamin C Serum

Believe it or not, when I was pregnant with Max my skin was even more sensitive!  It was really frustrating, especially when it did not completely go away after having him. My chest especially, is splotchy with red and freckles, and I have some of that redness on my face as well.  I remembered trying out Peter Thomas Roth products years ago, and gave it a go after reading the reviews for the Vitamin C Serum.  I applied this to my face and chest every other day, and within 2-3 months I saw a lightening and brightening happening.  I have also noticed if I apply this to a breakout forming, it will clear it up. Talk about a magic serum! ON SALE for $72.25 (down from $85)

6. DERMALOGICA - Overnight Retinol Repair

This retinol repair is packed with a punch.  A little goes a long way, and with over use I saw skin peeling, which is normal.  I reduced my usage to only one time per week, and am happy with the results, on both my chest and face.  This cream has powerful peptides and antioxidant Vitamin C to help fight signs of aging including uneven skin tone, discoloration and fine wrinkles. ($87)

7. PHILOSOPHY - Pink Frosted Animal Cracker Body Wash

Who doesn't like the smell of cookies?  Philosophy has been my favorite brand in yummy shower wash since working at Nordstrom.  I stock up on these every holiday season when their Candy Cane scent is offered, gifting that, Cinnabun, and Animal Cracker body wash to family and friends year round.  Yum yum yum!  (Now only $15)

8. BURT'S BEES - Deep Pore Scrub

I will try any Burt's Bees products.  To me, they are like the affordable version of Clinique, using mostly natural products leaving skin feeling soft and fresh.  That is very much said for this facial scrub, which feels like I just walked out of a European facial.  Since I prefer to spend my money on products instead of going into a spa for a pricey service, this is a major bargain.  I try to use this once a week.  (Less than $7)

9. CLINIQUE - Liquid Face Wash

Mark another tally for Clinique!  I actually have my bathroom and makeup bag full of Clinique items including soap, lotion, scrub, toner, eye cream, lipsticks, eyeshadow, blush, mascara, and more.  I am always happy with everything, but this is one of my essentials, and my absolute favorite face soap.  A nice part about Clinique is they have three different formulas for different skin types.  Maybe if my delicate skin found a match, yours will too!  (Now only $14.88, down from $17.50)

10. SOAP & GLORY - Sugar Crush Body Scrub

I am rounding up this list of skin care essentials with a body scrub from Sugar Crush, the brand with thee absolute cutest packaging that looks like a 1950s diner and a pink cupcake had a baby.  That is what drew me to the product, and the results kept me coming back.  I first started using body scrubs years ago when I sampled one at Bath & Body Works, but then realized it left me feeling too greasy and smelling of chemicals.  Sugar Crush has just enough of a yummy scent and leaves my skin soft, clean, and radiant.  I focus this product mostly on my legs and arms, and use once a week in the shower. (Only $15 and has lasted me one year)
